Male pattern baldness
Dr. O’tar Norwood’s classification of male pattern baldness defines two major patterns and several less common types. In the regular Norwood pattern, two areas of hair loss–a bit o temporal recession and thinning crown–gradually enlarge and coalesce until the entire front, top and crown (vertex) of the scalp are bald.
Causes of Male Pattern Baldness
By far the most common cause of hair loss in men is androgenetic alopecia, also referred to as “male pattern” baldness. It is caused by the effects of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) on genetically susceptible scalp hair follicles.
One of the most important hormones of the human body is Testosterone. Although considered men’s hormone, both men and women require it to grow and heal bones and muscles.
5-Alpha Reductase (5AR), rests in the tissue around your hair follicles and It turns Testosterone into a super concentrated and strong Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). A tiny amount of DHT in men is more than enough to grow facial hair, deepen the voice, and increase sex drive.
Hair loss occurs as a result of the body making too much 5AR and too much Testosterone as such, the body stores the excess Testosterone on your 5AR-filled scalp. Summation of the two causes the scalp to be flooded with DHT.
The excess DHT on the scalp causes the hair follicles to swell (just like the body does as a reaction to a bee sting or a twisted ankle). This swelling puts pressure on the hair follicle and overtime it slowly begins to choke it out.
The swelling caused by excess DHT reduces blood flow and restricts the follicle’s access to proteins, enzymes and hormones that are essential to maintain a healthy hair.
As the swelling continues, the hair follicles become sicker and weaker and your hair begins to grow-in thinner and finer… all the while the follicle is exerting more and more energy to produce these smaller, thinner hairs.
Eventually, the hair follicle simply cannot survive. It shrinks into nothingness and dies.
Male Pattern Baldness Cure.
There is no overnight baldness cure .
Forget about the false promises and wild “success” stories you have seen on the internet and in advertisements claiming to help cure baldness and regrow hair before you meet you blind date next week. The fact of the matter is that one simply can’t stop baldness and re-grow hair instantly as documented and repeated researchs has shown that it takes the average person anywhere from 6 months to 2 years to get the noticeable, full hair growth they deserve.
The immediate option every hair loss sufferer goes in for is OTC products like Rogaine and Procerin which works by blocking the DHT and supplying more blood flow to the scalp. Nevertheless, these treatments can’t over-come your body’s natural processes and even if they work, you will have to continue to use these products for the rest of your life as once you stop use, your hair fall out faster than before. Propecia on the other hand tries to prevent the production of the enzyme which forms DHT in the first place. But then this group of enzymes is also needed to perform a LOT of other healthy, non-hair loss functions. Therefore OTC products are certainly not an option.
A hair loss treatment should be aimed at Balancing your system so you only produce the amount of hormones you need and prevent DHT from being stored on your scalp, restore the body’s ability to create the essential enzymes which counteract DHT and nuture hair follicles and heal the damage caused by DHT.
One hair loss treatment program which is proving promising today is the hair loss black book – I must say that i am in no way an affiliate of this program, I just happen to know at least 13 people in real life who have been using the methods in this book since November 2013 and have seen tremendous improvement.
But then if you think your hair loss is not affecting you that much and therefore not worth spending $47 over to get a baldness cure. you can still try these methods which though not scientifically backed has been said to be helpful.
1. Press pure coconut oil down onto scalp and massage(not rub or caressing) it with your fingers planted into it. This is believe to shield the hair, seal in moisture, provide nutrients to the scalp, and in turn promotes growth.
