Dermatologist and hair restoration authority Dr. Sanusi Umar joined news anchors Sandra Mitchell and Dave Gonzalez for their afternoon segment as shown in this link:.
The topic of discussion: what causes hair loss and how to treat the condition. Dave Gonzalez began by acknowledging the emotional impact balding can have, which Dr. Umar confirmed was what started his work in hair restoration. His own baldness drove him to want to help others.
From hair breakage to genetic thinning, Dr. Umar explained that there are a great many sources of hair loss. And while this cosmetic difficulty does affect millions of men and women, there are some simple treatments that can help alleviate loss and promote growth. They include eating a balanced diet, taking vitamins, protecting the scalp from UV light, avoiding harsh chemicals, and using conditioner.
For more severe hair loss, Dr. Umar mentioned Rogaine (minoxidil) as well as Propecia (finasteride), both FDA-approved drugs with varying rates of success. For example, Rogaine is only effective in approximately 30% of consumers. Of course, as a well-respected hair transplant surgeon, Dr. Umar performs the surgical method FUE on those whose balding is more extreme.
